About the scenery:

The data used to construct the scenery was compiled from high-resolution aerial photography. Geoprocessing software was used for all of the imagery including the georeferencing and clipping of each image to conform to the geographic coordinates used by X-Plane. Image processing software was then used to further enhance the color and sharpness of each individual image. Final X-Plane scenery files were constructed using PhotoSceneryX software. All images were processed to join to each other with no noticeable seams between them when flying in X-Plane! The result is seamless imagery across the entire scenery area and outstanding image quality, even at lower altitudes. These are DSF (Distribution Scenery Format) files used by X-Plane 8 and 9. All scenery is produced by creating a new mesh in the DSF file. The imagery is not an overlay on the existing DSF files. All existing base images in the default land-use based scenery have been replaced in the base terrain mesh with the actual aerial images that you would see if you really flew over the area.

A note about airports: No changes have been made to the airports that are included with X-Plane. Runways at most major airports will align very well with the imagery used in RealScenery. For more information about editing airports, see our support page.
