Geography overview:
The Island of Oahu is the third larges and most populated of the Hawaiian Island chain and includes the city of Honolulu, the state capital. The entire island has a population of over 900,000. Two famous volcanic craters on Oahu include Diamond Head and Punchbowl craters, both popular visitor attractions. Oahu is the second oldest of the visitable Hawaiian islands and is composed of two major mountain ranges that were once shield volcanoes. These dramatic mountain ranges, the Waianae range in the west and Koolau range in the east, run nearly parallel to each other on opposite sides of the island.
